Senior Thermal Engineer - Rover
Starpath’s Rover team is building a set of high-speed, high-throughput mining Rovers for the Moon. These machines are designed to be the fastest, most powerful, and most capable in their class. On the Rover team, you’ll own subsystems from defining requirements through to manufacturing and testing. Starpath’s Rover team is a unique opportunity to design and build a critical and exciting part of humanity’s first industrial base in space.
Responsibilities
Own the thermal systems of Rover components, from design and analysis through to verification and testing
Define & justify thermal architecture requirements, conduct trade space analysis, create spreadsheet/MATLAB/Python first order models, and document decision processes
Create and manage thermal FEA models along with detailed component level design
Validate architecture and modeling via testing in a simulated lunar environment (TVAC)
Interface with adjacent teams to cohesively integrate hardware with supporting subsystems
Required Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field
5+ years of experience designing thermal control systems
5+ years of experience using engineering simulation software
Experience with CAD and detailed engineering calculations/analysis
A desire to make humans a multi-planet species
Preferred Qualifications
Post-graduate degree in a technical field
10+ years of experience in design of thermal control systems for space applications
Experience with industry standard thermal analysis software (Thermal Desktop, or similar)
A strong desire to make humans a multi-planet species
Position Details
Location: Los Angeles - Hawthorne
Salary base rate is $120k-$180k/yr, plus equity package; compensation scales with candidate experience
PTO & health/dental/vision coverage included
